Represented Great Britain at the 1972 Munich Olympics and was a former Junior British steeplechase record-holder.
Exceptional runner, coach and person; legendary tales of amazing endurance feats and drinking feats to match.
Sadly no longer with us, but the Holden family legacy continues at the club through son Tom Holden and grandson Freddie Holden, who competes in the under-14 junior age groups.

Tony is Tipton’s most successful road relay runner in the club’s history.
His breakthrough run at the 1989 London Marathon catapulted him into the limelight: he led for periods and finished under 2:10 with the world’s best still in sight.
Still sits at the top of the Tipton men’s marathon list — a feat achieved by very few, even in the carbon-plated shoe era.

Alan sadly passed away in 2024 at the age of 80.
A Commonwealth Games bronze medallist over the distance-event equivalent of 5000m and Tipton’s first sub-four-minute miler.
Part of the Tipton team that won the National Cross Country Championships and paraded the trophy in front of 25,000 fans before kick-off at his beloved West Bromwich Albion.

Briefly at Tipton, but coached for years by Tipton legend Bud Baldaro before becoming one of Britain’s leading marathon runners.

His standout achievement was the 24-hour world record: 161 miles 545 yards in 24 hours.
Ron’s Tipton Harriers legacy lives on through nephew Andy Bentley coaching the seniors, and Andy’s son Tom Bentley currently on an athletics scholarship in the States at Wingate University.
